The government of Catalonia has approved the initiative to declare Granollers' La Porxada a Cultural Asset of National Interest in the category of historical monument, and to define a protected area around it. This is a news that was warmly greeted by the Granollers Town Hall, whose Governing Commission agreed back in 2003 to request the government of Catalonia to open the proceedings for declaring La Porxada a Cultural Asset of National Interest, after the Town Heritage Commission had unanimously agreed to submit this request. 

Three years later, the government has acknowledged the importance of the building. La Porxada is regarded as a monument made up of the platform of paving stones, the fifteen stone columns and the roof, as well as the subsoil.

As regards the protected area, this is a legal concept that by definition takes into account and incorporates the monument's interactions with each of the urban elements around it, as well as their relationship amongst each other.
